Message from the Executive Director

It would appear that spring has finally arrived and with that comes turnaround season for local industries. Several of our members are or will be engaged in turnaround activities for the next several months (up to near the end of October). For more information on that topic, see the April Heartland 101 article at the following link Turnarounds scheduled for Heartland facilities.

As for NCIA, we continue to be busy with the Municipal Government Act review pieces. Of course we are now full swing into a provincial election and it would appear, by all accounts, that it is going to be an interesting one…so make sure you take the time to cast your ballot on May 5th.

We have also begun to work with Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development on some of the framework pieces that need to be completed for the North Saskatchewan Regional Plan, most notably a Regional Groundwater Management Framework for the Capital Region. As many of you know, NCIA has been monitoring regional groundwater (in the Beverly Channel) for nearly 10 years now and reporting that data on our website at the following link Northeast Capital Industrial Association – Regional Information. We have also been working with our noise consultant to complete the 2014/2015 update of the Regional Nosie Model and will be rolling that out publicly in the next month or so.

Enjoy the nice weather!

Cheers,

Laurie

Heartland 101: Staying Informed in Emergencies

Getting the right information to the right people at the right time is critical to ensuring public safety. Emergencies often happen with little warning – whether it’s a wildfire, weather event, or an industrial or transportation incident involving hazardous materials. Effective alerting can save lives, and local mutual aid organization, Northeast Region Community Awareness Emergency Response plays a role in how local residents and all Canadians receive emergency alerts.

Timely Tweets

Although we were treated to some unseasonal temperatures in January, this month’s colder weather has served as a reminder that spring is still a fair way off.  These chilly days however haven’t deterred our NCIA birds who have been busy tweeting away @NCIA_Alberta.

We think social media is a great way to share information and spread key messages.  If you haven ’t already checked out our Twitter feed please do.  We’d love to connect and learn more about your news and upcoming events.
