Initiatives

Air
NCIA and several member companies are active participants on several air-related initiatives including the following:
Air Management Framework for the Capital Region
NCIA and industry companies alongwith our municipalities, Alberta Environment and other regional organizations are currently developing an Air Management Framework for the Capital Region, which will move the long-standing system of regulating individual facility emissions, to regulating on a regional basis.
Fort Air Partnership
NCIA supports the Fort Air Partnership (FAP) and provides the majority of FAP's funding with support from Alberta Environment and Alberta's Industrial Heartland Association.

Water
NCIA is involved in numerous initiatives that work towards managing industrial water use in the Heartland and Capital Region. This includes being an active member of the multi-stakeholder Water Steering Committee (and its various sub-committees) established to guide the implementation of the Water Management Framework for the Industrial Heartland.

Land
There are a number of initiatives underway with respect to Land at the moment. These include:
- Sulphur Management in the Industrial Heartland (NCIA members along with Alberta Environment and other regional stakeholders developed a sulphur management framework for the Industrial Heartland in November of 2009.
- Wetlands Policy. NCIA and its members have expressed interest in participating with the province and other stakeholders to develop a Wetlands Policy for Alberta.
Noise
While industry is not the only source of noise, NCIA in collaboration with the ERCB have designed a regional approach to environmental noise management where all non-regulated and regulated NCIA member companies can participate in a regional solution to managing industry’s contribution to noise, specifically ensuring that industrial noise levels comply with the ERCB’s Noise Control Directive 038.

Life in the Heartland
NCIA is one of the partners of Life in the Heartland, a centralized resource for residents looking for information related to industry development such as project updates, environment, transportation and/or emergency response information.
